Leading by Example

When we think of great leaders, we all have our opinions of what constitutes success and what qualities are necessary to make them great. Children as young as two can learn leadership qualities. Individuals continue to learn important leadership skills throughout their life but these skills build off what children learn very early in life, which only emphasizes the importance of early learning. Children are influenced by characters in stories, sports heroes and biblical figures.  Ultimately, when we lead by example, we model skills that help build the future leaders of tomorrow.  Here are some simple suggestions to help guide children:

  • Family game night – Start here. Children learn how to be a good sport and play by the rules.
  • Let your child work though challenges and struggles.  You can reflect afterward and ask them how they might do things differently in the future
  • Encourage reading. Research shows that children who enjoy reading learn more about the real world
  • Be optimistic. Optimism is directly related to success

Parenthood volunteers at Beth El Early Learning Center Boca RatonIt is with all of these qualities and more, that I must thank all of the incredible leaders I have had the pleasure of working with at the Beth El early Learning Center.  Our Parenthood committee members have given of themselves so tirelessly, expertly and lovingly. To all of our parents who have chosen the ELC to be the place you trust for your children, to those who are busy working and providing a loving home for your children because you want to provide the best things that life has to offer, we recognize all of your hard work and sacrificing.  You are an incredible group of parents and we are endlessly appreciative of all of you!

Thank you for being our heroes!
